It feels so incredibly good to type these words, they said: Democrats have control of the whole Congress, both the House and the Senate. From Georgia and Kansas to frigging South Carolina, they said— voters across the country, even in deep red states, rejected MAGA Republicans and anti-abortion extremism. You might be tired of hearing the word ‘tsunami’, wrote Valenti and Cheung, but that’s exactly what it was.
With control of both chambers secured, Democrats can block Republicans’ radical anti-abortion agenda, they said: it means we can block Donald Trump’s executive and judicial nominees, control federal spending and block efforts to defund reproductive healthcare clinics, and vote down extremist legislation—whether it’s funding for crisis pregnancy centers or federal abortion restrictions.
These wins also mean that Democrats can go on the offensive: working on a federal bill to restore and protect abortion rights, repeal the Hyde Amendment, and more. And that was only the first day…!!!
