USA – New York City Health + Hospitals awarded US$10.7M to expand abortion care

NYC Health + Hospitals has been awarded $10.7 million from the New York State Abortion Access Program to strengthen abortion care across its 11 hospitals over the next three years. The funding will go toward hiring providers and patient navigators, purchasing equipment and supplies, expanding access to abortion doulas and providing financial support for patients. The funds will also be used to expand abortion care, telehealth services and patient support across the 11 hospitals.

In 2024, the health system provided more than 6,000 abortions. Services currently include both medication and procedural abortion at hospital-based clinics, as well as telehealth options through the Virtual ExpressCare platform.

The telehealth program allows New Yorkers seeking abortion care to connect with licensed clinicians by phone or video for assessment, counselling and, if eligible, abortion pills. Available daily from 9:00am to 9:00pm, the service is offered in over 200 languages and can be accessed at https://expresscare.nyc/?utm_source=bkreader&utm_campaign=bkreader%3A%20outbound&utm_medium=referral or by calling 1-718-360-8981.
