On 13 October, seven UN human rights mandates, including the Independent Expert on sexual orientation and gender identity, demanded “an immediate end” to the “Ailem Güvende” (“My Family Is Safe”) operation. They said at least 44 human rights defenders had been detained or arrested since 12 September. They also noted that receiving international funding “does not constitute evidence of criminal conduct”. Online censorship has expanded alongside the operation. In September, Turkish courts ordered X to block at least 1,270 accounts, and X made around 90% of them unavailable in Türkiye. The blocked accounts included those of LGBTI+ groups, journalists and Amnesty International Türkiye.
On 22 October, lawyers for Kaos GL said its seven jailed board members had been held for more than a month without an indictment. Journalist Tuğba Tekerek, jailed alongside them, has also been held without an indictment. The main charge is obscenity, which carries six months to two years in prison. The lawyers also reported that detainees had faced delays in access to healthcare, including hormone therapy for trans detainees.
