La Campaña Nacional por el Derecho al Aborto Legal, Seguro y Gratuito , a national network of organisations that has spearheaded the struggle to legalise abortion in Argentina, presented a bill for voluntary termination of pregnancy to the Argentinian Congress for the first time in 2007. On 30 June 2016, the Campaign presented the bill to legislators for the sixth time. Beforehand, with the support of inroads, they released a multimedia campaign to raise awareness and public support for the decriminalisation and legalisation of abortion. This consisted of a special website on “10 reasons to legalize early abortions” in English and Español that promote the decriminalization of abortion, and a recent study published with the support of the IPPF Western Hemisphere Region that evaluated public policy capacity to ensure access to sexual and reproductive rights in Argentina. The materials were widely shared on social media. The hashtag #abortolegal (#legalabortion) was trending on Twitter in Argentina the day the bill was presented with the support of 38 legislators from across the political spectrum.
