SOLIDARITY REQUEST: GERMANY
Abortion is restricted in Germany, but permitted if a woman fulfills the legal requirements. However, it is illegal for abortion providers to inform the public that they provide abortion care, because it is considered advertising. In recent years, many providers have been fined either for saying they provide abortions or information about abortion. Consequently, there is no website registered in Germany which has a list of abortion providers. Christian Fiala manages such a list from neighbouring Austria.
A doctor named Kristina Hänel opposes this restriction and has said on her website that patients can request information about abortion if they leave their email address.
Now she has launched an initiative to confront this legal restriction with a petition calling on the German Bundestag (parliament) to remove this revise under Paragraph 219, which covers abortion.
