S.A.F.E. turns three!

Hello

As we mark our third birthday, S.A.F.E. is so grateful to you, our supporters, for making our work possible.

Happy third birthday to us! S.A.F.E. intentionally launched on Valentines Day because we know that ensuring that everyone in Europe can access safe abortions if and when they want them is an act of RADICAL COMPASSION and LOVE.

The past three years have been challenging in ways we couldn’t have imagined, with escalating attacks from right-wing forces across Europe. But frontline abortion activists are born of crisis. We are nimble, creative problem-solvers and S.A.F.E. was built by and for the challenges ahead.

Thanks to your support, here’s what we’re proud to have achieved in the past year:

-We survived.
Funding for abortion and gender justice work has been scarce—even as anti-gender, anti-rights organisations in Europe saw a $1.8 billion increase in funding. We adapted by drastically cutting staffing costs so we can spend as much as possible on what matters most: making abortions happen.

-We celebrated.
Last year, we helped make over 3,740 abortions possible, trained dozens of activists, and strengthened community resilience through our community care sessions

-We funded.
We funded the only pro-choice psychological support line in Poland through 2027, covered the cost of keeping the Abortion Without Borders helpline open during its busiest month in six years, and—thanks to our leaner structure—will commit all donations in 2026 directly to funding abortions in Europe.

-We shared knowledge.
We launched Phase 2 of Abortopedia, released abortion reporting guides in Germany and the Czech Republic, spoke at events across Europe, and supported the fight to decriminalise abortion in the Netherlands.

-We gathered our siblings in the movement.
We brought together activists from 12 countries for a mini-conference to test our abortion counter-map—now being adapted for inclusion in Abortopedia.

None of this would be possible without our incredible volunteers—who support everything from research and translation to fundraising and social media—or without you, our financial supporters. We are endlessly grateful.

– As we enter our fourth year, S.A.F.E. is proud, loud, and here to fund abortions for as long as we are able.

28 March 2026

To mark the Global Day to Destigmatise Abortions on 28 March, S.A.F.E. is partnering with London’s iconic Feminist Library for a one-off book club fundraiser.

We’ll be reading My Notorious Life by Kate Manning, an engrossing novel inspired by the true story of Ann Trow Lohman (aka Madame Restell, once dubbed “the Wickedest Woman in New York”). It’s a mystery, a family saga, a love story, and a vivid portrait of 19th-century America.

Join us to discuss the book, explore the Feminist Library’s incredible collection, rave about abortion, and raise vital funds for people being failed by healthcare systems across Europe.
