POLAND – Trial unconscionably postponed yet again!

Justyna Wydrzynska’s trial was postponed once again on 14 October when the two witnesses – Ania, who she gave abortion pills to in early 2020, and her husband, who reported Justyna to the police – failed to appear yet again. Although the court had said in advance they would send the police to bring them in, if they did not appear on their own, this did not happen. Instead they were both fined. The trial has been postponed until 11 January 2023. If the husband who accused Justyna doesn’t have the courage to stand up in court, he should withdraw his accusation. But the real travesty of justice is that the court does not drop the case after a year of torture for Justyna, whose commitment to helping women is public and has not lessened one bit in spite of the threat of prison hanging over her. “It has cost me a lot, a lot of fear and emotion,” she said. “But I don’t intend to stop.”SOURCES: Reuters, by Joanna Plucinska, Ann Koper, 14 October 2022 + VISUAL: Kuba Stezyck/Reuters ; Poland Posts EN, 14 October 2022.

Three doctors in Poland have been charged with manslaughter in the death from sepsis of Izabela

Three doctors in Poland have been charged with manslaughter in relation to the death from uterine sepsis of Izabela, a 30-year-old pregnant woman who was 22 weeks pregnant in 2021. Treatment  of the sepsis (that is, an emergency abortion) was “delayed” because there was a fetal heartbeat. The manslaughter charges were of exposing the patient to the danger of loss of life. Two of the doctors were also charged with unintentionally causing her death. If convicted, they could face up to five years in prison.SOURCE: ABC News, by Associated Press, 8 September 2022 (Link not available); ICWRSA Newsletter, Her heart was beating too!, 17 November 2021.
