Following the national election in Poland, a new Team for Improving Women’s Health Safety was established by the Ministry of Health, as was promised by the new government. However, it has now been discovered that no one with expertise on providing abortions has been included on this team. Therefore, the group Legal Abortion has created a petition to demand that someone from Abortion Without Borders, who provide most safe abortions to Polish women, be included in the new Team.
This is a last-minute appeal. Please sign the petition and share it on social media or by email with as many supporters as you can in as short a space of time as possible and encourage everyone to sign right away. Thank you!!!!
Why is this important?
The ban on abortion has made it virtually impossible to perform an abortion within the health care system in Poland.
‼️ In more than half of the voivodeships in Poland, hospitals do not perform abortions – we obtained such data for 2022 as @legalna.aborcja from the Ministry of Health.
‼️ 161 terminations of pregnancy in the health care system in a country of 38 million people throughout 2022 – sounds like a joke, but these are also official data from the Ministry of Health.
📣 We know well that people with high-risk pregnancies go abroad with #AborcjaBezGranic to save their health and lives. They do not want to share the stories of women who died in gynecological wards because doctors did not perform an abortion for them. They do not want to argue with the health care system and prove that they are entitled to benefits when subsequent doctors send them away to seek help elsewhere.
These data confirm two important facts:
❌ The vast majority of doctors in Poland do not want and do not know how to perform abortions.
❌ The health care system shows the middle finger to people who want to terminate a pregnancy (even for statutory reasons) – they can only count on non-governmental organizations and grassroots movements that provide access to abortion.
❗Most abortions, over half (82) were performed in the province Lower Silesia, 21 in Lesser Poland, 20 in Masovian Voivodeship, further voivodeships include West Pomeranian Voivodeship (15), Pomeranian Voivodeship (14), Greater Poland Voivodeship (7) and Łódź Voivodeship (2).
❌ In the Kuyavian-Pomeranian, Lublin, Lubuskie, Opole, Podkarpackie, Podlaskie, Silesian, Świętokrzyskie and Warmian-Masurian Voivodeships, NO abortions were performed in hospitals.
❤ At the same time, with the support of #Aborcjabezgranic, 44,000 people from Poland had access to safe abortion. 1.2 thousand went abroad for surgery in the second and third trimester. 99% of abortions in Poland are home abortions using abortion pills, which are safe and recommended by WHO. Self-administered abortions are also legal in Poland.
We are sorry and angry that another government – this time Donald Tusk – ignores the abortion reality.
