“Imagine that you are a six-month pregnant woman trying to get to hospital because you suffered a haemorrhage, but there is an Israeli military checkpoint on the way. And not only do they stop you and try to block your entry but they also ask the driver to turn off the engine! That engine is crucial to keep the supplies, to keep the medical equipment inside the ambulance going for you and your baby.
“After a delay, they allow you to go ahead. You’re unconscious. A nurse delivers the baby. The baby’s oxygen was low. And by the time the ambulance gets to the hospital, the baby has died. This is one of the sad stories we’ve been having to report all morning. But in the past few days, many women have been going into labour at the checkpoints. Some are giving birth at these checkpoints. Others are being told to walk through the checkpoint while they’re in labour!”
