MEXICO – Obstetric violence and maternal death: Public policy recommendations and analysis by GIRE

This brief document analyzes the social determinants of obstetric violence and maternal death in Mexico, based on the National Survey on the Dynamics of Household Relations (ENDIREH) and mortality data provided by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI). The findings paint a stark picture of an alarming inequality faced by women and people with the capacity to become pregnant in accessing obstetric care. For example, women with disabilities experience obstetric violence more frequently than women with no disabilities or limitations. We are confident that this document will serve as a valuable resource for promoting changes and coordinating actions in the field.
