[Today we explore the importance of redefining fatherhood with stories of today’s fathers, and how this type of narrative text can transform our society. We describe Telepapa, a narrative project that explores fatherhood among migrant fathers.]
For centuries, the idea has prevailed that men should be the economic providers, avoid showing vulnerability and leave the raising of children to mothers. This narrative has become deeply embedded in our culture, driven by ideas present in films, books, songs1 and other media that have normalized it.
This dominant perspective on parenting ignores the reality of many parents and perpetuates problems such as lack of responsibility in the home, divided families, and an unequal burden in caring for children. This, in turn, exposes mothers to economic hardship and children to incomplete parenting.]
🌈 Crear mensajes positivos y esperanzadores
[Telepapa is about migrant fathers who care for their children from a distance. The objective is:
“In Latin America, many fathers emigrate in order to support their families. facing the pressure of being seen only as providers. However, many migrant fathers work arduously to maintain a presence in the care of their children, building and maintaining emotional bonds in spite of the distance. The aim is to inform about the reality of migrant fathers; sensitise on the importance of responsible paternity; contribute to the construction of sensitive and loving narratives; create positive and hope-filled messages.]
We started with the inspiring history of Nelson Moncada (see the video), a migrant father from Uruguay. And we have already prepared three histories of other migrant fathers who live in Chile and Uruguay.
