KENYA: CONFERENCE SPEECH – Women should be allowed to have an abortion if they want one

In a speech at the 9th Africa Conference on Sexual andReproductive Health and Rights in February 2020, Nairobi CountyWomen’sRepresentative Esther Passarissaid women should be allowed to have an abortion if they want it, should nothave children they can’t take care of. She expressed concern over womenliving in the slums who use abortion instead of family planning methods,resulting to inevitable deaths, and high rates of inhumane disposal of innocentinfants. She also promised to help a womanliving with disability who was sterilisedwithout her consent in 2007 after she had had three children by caesareansection.
