Suggested Theme: Free the abortion pill!
Motivation of the theme:
Noting the 2022 recommendations from World Health Organisation (WHO) on Self-Managed Abortions (SMA), we support efforts to expand access to abortion care. Through this theme we hope that there can be greater awareness raised on the efficacy of SMA. We hope that awareness of SMA can reduce the red tape that is often associated with Medical Abortion (MA) at facilities and also make the process of abortion access less complicated. This is especially important, particularly on reducing the burden of care on already over capacitated health facilities, noting the need for prescriptions for MA and/or clinical supervision.
We also note that WHO (and many other international bodies) have determined that SMA is equally safe, effective when safely administered by an individual who has been provided with the necessary information to self-manage.
