EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT – Resolution on coordinated action of the European Union to combat the Covid-19 pandemic and its consequences

This incredible document, which clearly took a huge amount of negotiation, has a section called Protect democracy, the rule of law and fundamental freedoms(Protéger la démocratie, l’état de droit et les libertés fondamentales) and includes the following:

Section 48

…Calls on the Member States to guarantee effectively that all women and girls have safe and rapid access to reproductive and sexual health and associated health rights and services during the Covid-19 pandemic, including access to contraception, emergency contraception and abortion;

Strongly opposes any attempt to backtrack on reproductive and sexual health and rights as well as the rights of LGBTI people, and condemns, in this context, attempts to further criminalize abortion, to stigmatize people with HIV and to hamper young people’s access to sex education in Poland, as well as violations of the rights of transgender and intersex people in Hungary…SOURCE: European Parliament,Action coordonnée de l’Union pour combattre la pandémie de COVID-19 et ses consequences, adopted 17 April 2020, Brussels
