CANADA – The uncompromising entrepreneur who helped change Canada’s birth control law

Toronto’s Harold Fine did a roaring trade in condoms starting in the late 1950s. Unfortunately, it was illegal to sell contraceptives in Canada until 1969. He was put on trial, and a lobbying effort aimed at wiping the antiquated law off the Criminal Code led to the formation of the Planned Parenthood Federation of Canada, with the outcome that production and sale of contraceptives was made legal in 1969.
