“Enough of playing ostrich” is the title of the above article by Jacqueline Pitanguy, published in Veja magazine on 25 August 1993. Defending the need to discuss abortion within the framework of a secular and plural State, which respects both the right not to have an abortion without consent and the right to choose to terminate the pregnancy in certain circumstances and stating that parliamentarians needed to “face with courage the challenge of abortion in the reform of the Penal Code”. The return to the past, at this moment, brings many reflections on the present in Brazil.
