Education about abortion
The second reading of the proposed Bill on Partial Decriminalization of Aiding in Abortions will take place on 11th June 2024 at the Polish Sejm. It will be voted on the following day. According to the latest research, over 50% of Polish society supports decriminalization of aiding in abortion. Nonetheless, the president has promised to veto the bill.
Unfortunately, the proposed bill has been amended so many times that its final shape is insufficient and heralds a woeful new compromise. Its final version is an aggregation of accommodations made between Lewica, KO and Trzecia Droga. Once again, our real problems and needs come second to political advantages and personal beliefs of politicians.
Because of this, the Abortion Dream Team and Abortion Without Borders will hold their on-call abortion duty (Thursday from 10 am to 1 pm) in the Sejm building, at the journalists’ tables. Politicians still believe that their anti-abortion opinions are more important than legal solutions securing the needs, health and life of women
That’s why they will conduct their on-call duty at the Sejm, showing politicians that abortion is a fact, not an opinion. And it happens thanks to them – non-governmental organizations and groups providing real abortion support. They invite journalists to join them between 10am and 1pm to listen to the problems faced by women who call them.
Right after the vote on partial decriminalization of aiding in abortions, on 12th of July, they will embark on their second Abortion Patrol at the Polish seaside. With a van packed to the brim with abortion merchandise and gadgets, they will hit the road to reach the towns of Pomerania and educate people about abortion. Abortion Patrol is an effort to create an information point providing answers to all questions about abortion. It is also an opportunity to meet abortion activists and listen to abortion coming outs – stories of brave women who have had abortions and decided to share their experiences.
Abortion Patrol is not just about information, it is also a display of solidarity with women who have terminated their pregnancies. All the tour’s events aim to increase social awareness on women’s reproductive rights and the fight for safe, accessible abortion.
