Workshop on SRHR and Education Rights Advocacy
WGNRR Africa conducted a three-day workshop, bringing together 20 representatives from grassroots organisations working on SRHR and education rights in Tanzania.
During the workshop, participants were introduced to strategic litigation, policy engagement and coalition-building as an advocacy strategy to drive meaningful change. Through learning, shared experiences and expert-led discussions, the workshop fostered collaboration, knowledge exchange, and a unified approach to advance SRHR and education justice.
The fight for inclusive policies and stronger advocacy continues! Join us in championing SRHR and education rights by raising awareness, engaging decision-makers, and pushing for lasting policy reforms. Every voice counts, and together, we can create a future where SRHR and education rights are protected and fulfilled for all!
Young People Lead SRHR Advocacy Initiatives
On March 23, 2025, two youth SRHR leaders supported by WGNRR Africa under the YOULEAD project, engaged local government officials in Rusimbi and Katubuka wards, Kigoma Ujiji Municipal in Tanzania, to introduce their social action projects named Big sisters for SRHR and Simama Namimi.
Big Sisters for SRHR and Simama Namimi are youth-led initiatives conceived by youth for youth to address the gaps in access to SRHR information and services faced by adolescent youth in Kigoma-Ujiji Municipality due to systemic barriers imposed by cultural norms, religious beliefs and gender inequalities. Apart from these social benefits, the initiatives provide an opportunity to put young people on the frontlines to lead the SRHR advocacy and shape their future.
“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to WGNRR Africa for bringing this project to Kigoma. We believe it will greatly benefit many youths, and we commit to providing strong support for these two selected youths (Ibrahim and Furaha) to ensure they can reach the youth communities of Rusimbi and Katubuka wards without barriers. We also welcome more youth programs in our region to address issues like teenage pregnancies, child marriage, STIs, and youth dependency.” Austina Hwago, Rusimbi Ward Community Development Officer.
As these young leaders press forward with their projects, the support of local leaders signals a shared commitment to creating a healthier, more empowered future for all youth in Kigoma.
