SAFE is freshly returned from our Safe Abortion Day activities. We held concurrent (Dutch and English) workshops in the Netherlands for members of parliament, journalists, activists and abortion providers on how to answer hard questions about abortion. We followed the workshops with a panel discussion covering all things abortion in the Netherlands and launched SAFE’s first ever publication.
The events were full of optimism and information, and also had the largest number of SAFE volunteers in attendance in one place. Our merry band of abortion pirates wishes you reproductive justice and bodily autonomy for all.
This year’s International Safe Abortion Day’s theme was abortion solidarity – “Uniting communities across borders, generations and movements to uphold the right to safe abortion and advance reproductive justice. At SAFE, we do this EVERY DAY. Our work with Abortion Without Borders and with our partners, including Martynka, L’Associació Drets Sexuals i Reproductius and others, is based on mutual solidarity and safe abortions for all. Bodily autonomy or bust, our reproductive rights revolution intersects across geography, culture, faith, gender, sexuality, race, age and more.
We are excited to share our first publication: a guide for reporters, researchers, politicians and anyone else who wants to talk or write about abortion factually and without stigma. The guide is available in Dutch HERE and in English HERE. While this guide is specific to the Netherlands, SAFE is looking for partners in other European countries to work with on recreating this guide in other languages and for other contexts.
