The women’s movement internationally has celebrated 28 September as a day of action for the right to safe abortion with one voice since 1990. This year, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), we are calling on the United Nations, its agencies and human rights bodies, and all national leaders – both governmental and non-governmental – to stand up for safe abortion for every girl and woman who faces an unwanted pregnancy. #LeavingNoOneBehind
WE SAY: Universal access to safe abortion is an integral part of family planning and reproductive health and rights. It is central to promoting, protecting and fulfilling the right to life and health of girls and women. And it is an essential part of reducing maternal mortality and morbidity, alongside safe pregnancy and delivery care.
