Consolidated guidelines on sexual and reproductive health and rights for women living with HIV

On 21 February 2017, the World Health Organization (WHO) launched its first consolidated guideline on sexual and reproductive health and rights for women living with HIV.

Two of the Guideline’s recommendations are of direct relevance to the provision of abortion for women living with HIV. They are:

> WHO recommends that safe abortion services should be the same for women living with HIV who want a voluntary abortion as for all women.

> WHO suggests that women living with HIV who want a voluntary abortion can be offered a choice of medical or surgical abortion, as for all women.

See the Executive Summary of the Guideline for all topics covered. The full Guideline will be available soon at WHO’s Department of Reproductive Health and Research ; SOURCE: FIAPAC Newsletter, by Paul Van Look, April 2017, p.6.
