GREENLAND – Danish Prime Minister supports Greenland’s Reconciliation Commission plan after decades of forced contraception for Inuit women

On 1 September 2026, Greenland said it would establish a Truth and Reconciliation Commission on Denmark’s forced contraception of thousands of Indigenous people, after so-called “experts” failed to agree on whether the scheme constituted “genocide”.

The forced Inuit contraception campaign is one of the darkest chapters in Greenland’s history under the former colonial power of Denmark, a country that today is more democratic than most.

Unfortunately, in spite of listing endless articles in an apparently non-stop list of publications, Press Reader apologised that this one article, the only one they could offer providing details of this dark chapter in history that I was looking for, was no longer available online — only a couple of days after they had published it. However, you can no doubt imagine what it said.
