…as experts fault Sanwo-Olu’s continued ban on safe pregnancy termination
The continued suspension of Lagos State’s Safe Termination of Pregnancy (STOP) Guidelines has come under renewed criticism from reproductive health advocates, journalists and medical experts, who warn that the policy vacuum is worsening maternal mortality and forcing desperate women into unsafe abortions.
At a two-day training organised by the Centre for Bridging Health Gaps (CBHGaps) for members of the Network of Reproductive Health Journalists of Nigeria (NRHJN) in Gbagada, Lagos, recently, speakers argued that Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu’s refusal to lift the suspension of the guidelines has failed women in the state and tied the hands of medical practitioners who are expected to key into the policy to save the lives of women.
