Last year, access to telemedicine medical abortion was suspended in Moldova, despite evidence that it is safe and effective, and despite its importance for women in rural areas and other marginalized groups who face barriers to accessing in-person care.
The ASTRA Network was proud to support the advocacy work that was ongoing during the past year, calling for its reinstatement, including through our collective open letter with the Reproductive Health Training Center in Chisinau on 4 February 2025, calling on the Moldovan authorities to restore access to telemedicine medical abortion.
You can read our full letter here: https://bit.ly/4xcmr96. It was written by Ewa Szymera, coordinator of the ASTRA Network.
This progress is a reminder that collective advocacy works, so this is good news! At the same time, access remains limited, and continued efforts are needed to protect and expand access to telemedicine medical abortion care in Moldova.
We share this news with deep appreciation for and solidarity with Astra’s Moldovan members and partners — your determination made this important step possible.
