COHERINET, alongside the ACTUATE Consortium partners, was honored to host the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the Gender Norms Task Force at Bulopa Health Center III in Kamuli District.
The visit reviewed progress of the ACTUATE Project and our efforts to address harmful gender and social norms limiting access to Sexual and Reproductive Health services.
Through community engagements and stronger health systems, we continue expanding stigma-free, quality services for women and girls.
We appreciate the shared commitment to advancing gender equality and better health outcomes. Together with the Royal Netherlands Embassy and local stakeholders, we are breaking barriers and ensuring inclusive, respectful care for all.

Give to Gain: Men Championing Women’s SRHR
Community Dialogue, Kalangala District
In commemoration of the International Women’s Day, let’s embrace the power of “Give to Gain”. When men step forward as allies for women’s Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), families thrive, communities become healthier, and gender equality moves from aspiration to reality.
During a powerful community dialogue with male leaders in Kalangala district, men gave their commitment to respect women’s bodily autonomy through breaking barriers and challenging harmful norms and stereotypes that limit women’s access and uptake to sexual reproductive health services.
Male leaders rise as allies
As allies championing support for sexual reproductive choices, the already transformed leaders agreed to continue empowering fellow young and adult men to give support for women’s choices in family planning and all sexual reproductive health decision-making. They committed to debunking outdated perceptions like “sexual reproductive health is a woman’s responsibility”.
“We realized that by supporting our partners’ choices, we gain healthier families and stronger marriages. It’s not about losing power, it’s about sharing strength.”
–
Community leader, Kalangala
Through male support in their partner’s decision-making, we shall gain healthier families with improved maternal and child health outcomes. Advancing equality and respect among couples will foster gender equality and mutual respect, thus reducing the incidences of GBV among families.
Call to Action
-
Empower and encourage men to actively “give” support for SRHR to “gain” a more equitable society.
-
Break the silence and normalize SRHR discussions among men to ensure meaningful and collaborative sexual reproductive health decision-making partners in order to foster respectful relationships.
-
Let’s “give” our support to gain a more equitable world. Join the conversation on male involvement in SRHR.

UNITING FAITH, CULTURE & HEALTH LEADERS TO TRANSFORM SOCIAL NORMS.
As we continue to assess the impact of social norms and beliefs in regard to uptake of sexual reproductive services, we brought together different stakeholders that included the Kawempe Inter-religious council members, Cultural leaders from Kampala and the metropolitan, Health workers, the Kawempe Division Community Development Officer and District Health Team.
These stakeholders engaged in a dialogue that was aimed at discussing the social norms based on the different religions, cultures and how they impact the sexual health of people in the community, how to challenge the harmful norms and promote informed choices.
When community leaders work together, we can create safer, healthier, and more supportive environments for everyone, especially women and young people.
Together, we continue to build communities where knowledge replaces stigma and dialogue drives change. The engagement revealed critical intersections between religious teachings, cultural expectations, and access to sexual reproductive health services. Participants committed to actionable steps: organizing joint community sensitizations, using faith platforms to debunk myths, and strengthening referral pathways between traditional leaders and health facilities.
#Challenging Harmful Norms
Amplifying community power to promote gender equality, diversity, and inclusion.
Throughout this quarter, we continually conducted community reflective dialogues to amplify their power in promoting gender equality, diversity, and inclusion. By engaging community stakeholders in conversations about social norms, we create lasting impact from within.

Let’s turn dialogue into action
Together, we commit to building a more inclusive future — where every voice matters, harmful norms are dismantled, and equality becomes reality.
