On January 30th, I will once again stand before a Polish court. I have been found guilty of providing assistance to a woman seeking an abortion. This is not a mistake; it’s an absurd verdict that criminalizes compassion and condemns me for helping someone in need
For the past year, I have clung to the hope that the new government would fulfill its promise of decriminalizing abortion. This promise, however, remains unfulfilled. I now face a legal battle that underscores the injustice faced by countless women in Poland who lack access to safe and legal abortion care.
I do not feel guilty, and I never will. I acted with empathy and provided support to someone in a vulnerable situation. I believe that every person deserves access to safe and compassionate abortion care, free from judgment and stigma.
The reality of abortion in Poland
The current state of abortion care in Poland paints a grim picture of a system that fails women. In 2024, Polish hospitals performed a mere 700 abortions, while organizations like Abortion Without Borders assisted in over 47,000. This stark contrast reveals the devastating impact of restrictive laws and the critical role played by independent organizations in providing essential healthcare.
We are on the verge of opening the abortion center, ABOTAK, a safe haven where women can access compassionate abortion care without fear of judgment or criminalization. However, we need your support to make this dream a reality.
Please consider making a contribution for ABOTAK here. Every contribution, no matter what size, brings us closer to opening our doors and providing vital support to women in need.
- PS. After the court hearing on January 30th, we will announce the official opening date of the AboTak Clinic. Please stay tuned for further updates.
Thank you for your unwavering support and solidarity. Your commitment to reproductive freedom is invaluable in this ongoing fight!
Warmly, Justyna Wydrzyńska
