Building Youth Leadership in Asia

ASAP has supported 28 Youth Projects, conducted by their Youth Champions, in 12 countries through its Small Grants Programme in the last five years. These are in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, India, Indonesia, Iran, Lebanon, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam. For example, in Afghanistan, a doctor conducted a two-day training programme for 15 obstetricians and gynaecologists at th Malalai Hospital in Kabul, on post-abortion care and gender and rights issues. In Bangladesh, Krishti Aung and the Bangladesh Assembly of Youth Advocates created social awareness about menstrual regulation amongst women residents of Dhaka Slums and girls working in garment factories. In Myanmar, Yadanar developed a comic book to help reduce the harms of unsafe abortion in the country. And in 2015, three safe abortion information hotlines were launched in Sri Lanka, Philippines and India.FULL REPORT 2016
