POLAND – Do you think that the stigmatization and prosecution of abortion activists is over? Unfortunately it is not.

On December 5, another appeal hearing was to take place against Justyna Wydrzyńska – the first activist in Europe convicted of supporting a woman desperately seeking help in terminating an unwanted pregnancy. The verdict that Justyna heard on March 14, 2023, was handed down after 12 months of a trial full of unfair, political decisions. The appeal hearing was cancelled. We are waiting for a new date.

Justyna has been waiting for the appeal hearing for 19 months, and now she will again face a judge, appointed by politicians who have been trying to outlaw abortion in Poland for years. That is why Justyna does not intend to take part in this patriarchal spectacle. She will agree to be judged only by an independent, legally appointed judge.

The only thing Justyna regrets is that she could not have helped Ania more (Ania is the woman to whom she gave her pills). Ania was alone in this fight, dominated by an abusive partner and abandoned by a system that cared more about the “interest of the fetus” than the life and safety of women. Justyna, who simply wanted to help, was convicted. Nothing was a mitigating circumstance for the court, not even the fact that Ania clearly said that she would rather kill herself than have the baby.

Justyna’s fight continues, and we will not stop in our actions. We help people like Ania every day and we will open the first Abortion Clinic in Poland, because no woman should ever find herself in such a situation as Ania and other victims of inhuman lawlessness.
