INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE MIDWIFE – 5 May 2025

At the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM), we recognise that midwives are in these challenging times. Midwives are trusted first responders within their communities, who can strengthen health systems to be resilient to crises. They can provide up to 90% of sexual, reproductive, maternal, newborn, and adolescent health (SRMNAH) services, even in the most complex humanitarian settings. For this reason, the theme for this year’s International Day of the Midwife (IDM) is Midwives: Critical in Every Crisis.

On 5 May 2025, the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) and midwives worldwide will celebrate the International Day of the Midwife (IDM) under the theme: “Midwives: Critical in Every Crisis.” This theme underscores the indispensable role midwives play in crisis preparedness, planning, and response.

To support this initiative, ICM has launched an IDM 2025 Digital Toolkit, providing advocacy materials, social media assets, and educational resources. Additionally, ICM will host a special online event on 5 May 2025, featuring real-life stories from midwives on the frontlines, discussions with global leaders, and interactive activities. Join by sharing ICM’s social media materials and learning more about what midwives can do for their communities—especially in times of crisis.

To learn much more and how to join their free virtual conference online on 5 May, go to this ICM website: MIDWIVES: Critical in Every Crisis, which contains visuals, an Advocacy Toolkit and a Resources Pack in English, French and Spanish, and much more!!.
