INTER-AGENCY WORKING GROUP (IAWG) – CanWaCH to assume the organizational host role of IAWG

The Women’s Refugee Commission (WRC) is pleased to announce that the Canadian Partnership for Women’s and Children’s Health (CanWaCH) will assume the role of organizational host of the IAWG (Inter-Agency Working Group on Reproductive Health in Crises), beginning in December 2024.

WRC is proud to have nurtured the coalition from its earliest days. Our landmark 1994 “Refugee Women and Reproductive Health Care” report, unveiled at the International Conference on Population and Development, highlighted a near total absence of reproductive health services in humanitarian settings. WRC’s subsequent advocacy led to the creation of IAWG in 1995.

WRC also contributed substantially to the first iteration of the Inter-Agency Field Manual and the Minimum Initial Service Package (MISP) for Sexual and Reproductive Health in Crises Settings, which, nearly 30 years later, remain the cornerstones of Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) in humanitarian settings.

As the longest-standing and only global coalition focused specifically on SRHR in humanitarian settings, IAWG is well positioned to advance strong and coordinated approaches in the face of record levels of humanitarian need and increasing threats to SRHR. WRC remains a steadfast champion of IAWG’s work and looks forward to continued engagement in IAWG’s important mission in the years to come.

IAWG’s website, listservs, and membership will remain unchanged. You can find them at www.iawg.net. For questions, please contact the IAWG Coordinator, Sarah Knaster, at sknaster@canwach.ca.
