World Population Day 2016: Investing in Teenage Girls

posted in: Newsletter | 0

Today is World Population Day, which is commemorated annually on 11 July, the day on which the world’s population reached 5 billion in 1987. This year the theme from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is “Investing in teenage girls”.

We look forward to the day when UNFPA, a strong advocate for sexual and reproductive health and contraception, especially for adolescents and young people, also supports the right to safe abortion, including for teenage girls with an unwanted pregnancy – the age group more at risk of negative consequences from unsafe abortion than any other group.
