Safe Abortion Services in Cambodia and Safe Abortion with Quality of Care in Nepal

The Asian-Pacific Resource and Research Centre for Women (ARROW) has been working since 1993 to champion women’s sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). Their January 2017 e-newsletter, Issue 1, highlights five short videos on SRHR issues in Cambodia, China, India, Nepal, and Philippines. We highlight two of them here, which are on safe abortion in Cambodia and Nepal, both countries that have legalised early abortions, highlighting the fact that many women are not yet aware of this.

Indian Health Ministry proposes several amendments to the abortion law

At present, the law on abortion in India recognises failure of contraceptive as a legal reason for abortion only if the woman is married. The national Health Ministry has proposed to allow single women to opt for abortion in cases of unplanned pregnancies, a move aimed to allow single women to exercise their reproductive rights.

What contraception do women use after abortion? An analysis of 319,385 cases from eight countries

This paper describes contraceptive uptake in 319,385 women seeking abortion in 2,326 public sector health facilities in eight African and Asian countries from 2011 to 2013. Interventions included updating national guidelines, upgrading facilities, supplying contraceptive methods, and training providers.
