Madagascar – Tribute to Simone Veil launches national discussion on decriminalisation of abortion

There are 75,000 clandestine abortions in Madagascar each year, according to data from the Ministry of Public Health, analysed by the University of Ankatso. Behind these figures, women’s lives are at stake. Abortion is still illegal and criminalised, first imposed under French colonial law.

IRELAND – “Every Woman”: NWCI appeals to middle ground on abortion law reform in Ireland

SOUTH KOREA – Petition to government to amend abortion law and approve mifepristone

In September this year, a petition on a government website called on President Moon Jae-in to  amend the abortion law and approve the sale of mifepristone. The government has promised to respond to any petition that gains more than 200,000 signatures in a month. This petition got 235,000 signatories. ISLE OF MAN – Responses to public consultation on the Abortion Reform Bill 2017

  Following permission in January 2017 to bring forward a private members bill, member of the Isle of Man parliament Dr Alex Allinson asked for feedback on the draft Abortion Reform Bill between 7 July and 18 September 2017. The Bill proposes changes to the Act to offer women access on request up to 14 weeks, and changes to the grounds for access beyond 14 weeks. INDIA – Government doctors being trained to help women get safe and legal abortions

  The Comprehensive Abortion Care programme is training doctors in abortion laws, medical and surgical abortion procedures, and how to counsel women.
