FEATURE – Supreme Court of Brazil to hear experts on decriminalization of abortion on 3rd and 6th August 2018

On Friday August 3rd and Monday August 6th, the Brazilian Supreme Court will hold a public hearing about the decriminalization of abortion. At the hearing, 50 speakers are scheduled to be heard, including health, law and social science experts, as well as feminist and international human rights organizations, and religious representatives.

BRAZIL – Hundreds of women march in Rio to demand legal abortion

Carrying banners reading “The rich abort, but the poor die” and chanting slogans in support of abortion legalisation, protesters in Rio de Janeiro marched from the state assembly to the city council late on 22 June, inspired by the vote in Argentina. BRAZIL – A feminist robot on Facebook

Perhaps the most creative and innovative response to the various rollbacks on women’s reproductive rights in recent times in Brazil has been Beta, a feminist robot on Facebook, created by Nossas, a national network of citizens’ rights organisations across Brazil. Before Beta was even formally launched on Facebook, “she” organically accumulated 10,000 likes through word of mouth and peer recommendations. BRAZIL – The progress of the anti-abortion amendment has been delayed, but it’s not over

On December 14, the Special Commission did not vote on the amendment to make all abortions illegal in a bill whose aim was initially to extend paid maternity leave for women with premature births.
