Brazil has high rates of adolescent fertility within a below‐replacement total fertility rate. Data from the 2013 School‐to‐Work Transitions Survey showed that childbearing during adolescence is detrimental to girls’ educational attainment, and educational disadvantages persist – up 1.8 fewer years of schooling and 35-41% difference in the probability of graduating from high school. Marital unions among adolescent mothers may have a compounding role at further hindering girls’ educational progress in an already highly‐stratified society.
