ARGENTINA – Newly elected president calls for legalisation of abortion before he is elected

The elections this month included several “outspoken feminist candidates”, while protests against gender-based killing of women, national women’s strikes, and a “campaign that saw abortion nearly legalised in the National Congress last year” amount to what is being called “the revolution of the daughters”.

CAMEROON – The Society of Gynaecologists and Obstetricians of Cameroon launches three-year project “Advocacy for Comprehensive Abortion Care” in Yaoundé

The vision of the project is in line with the directives of the Ministry of Public Health. Unsafe abortion was identified as a leading cause of maternal mortality. The Government acknowledged they need the support of collaborators like SOGOC and others dealing in sexual reproductive health, so as to combat maternal deaths.

BELGIUM – Decriminalisation of abortion: the debate is re-opened in the parliament

MOROCCO – Bill tabled in parliament to remove abortion from the Penal Code

The demand of civil society for the legalisation of abortion has reached the Moroccan Parliament. Two members of the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM), Mme Fatima-Ezzahra Mansouri and Abdellatif Ouahbi, tabled a bill in the House of Representatives on 18 October calling for the repeal of Articles 449 to 458 of the Penal Code, which criminalise abortion. AUSTRALIA – New tele-abortion service opens, in wake of the closure of the Tabbot Foundation, especially for women in rural and regional areas

A new tele-abortion service, called Abortion Online, was launched in mid-October 2019 in New South Wales, which provides medical abortion consultations online or over the phone, removing the need to travel to an abortion clinic in person.
