EL SALVADOR- Imelda Cortez freed after 18 months in prison and repeated delays in hearing her case

Imelda Cortez had been detained without trial in San Miguel prison since April 2017. As we reported on 20 November, Imelda gave birth in the latrine of her home that month. She said she had not known she was pregnant. Bleeding heavily, she was taken to the National Hospital of Jiquilisco, where she was arrested and accused of miscarriage. EASTERN EUROPE / CENTRAL ASIA – Regional Conference on Bringing the WHO Recommendations on Safe Abortion and Family Planning Closer to Women in Countries of Eastern Europe and Central Asia

There were 65 participants. The meeting was in Russian with simultaneous translation in English. Participants included health professionals, health policymakers and NGO representatives from 11 counties in the region – Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, and Russia.

SOUTH AUSTRALIA- New abortion bill tabled in South Australia: no qualifications, no upper time limits, no abortion-specific regulations at all
